Chamber Play
Contemporary Art in the Local History Museum

What is home? Memories of the past, a sense of security in the here and now, or perhaps a feeling directed towards the future? All of these can be found in the historic Lochmannhaus, the founding location, exhibition space and arguably most important collection object of the Museum Starnberger See. It has stood at this very spot since at least 1520 and is unique in that it was once a noble estate, a farm and a fisherman's cottage all at the same time. Like almost no other place in the region, the Lochmannhaus connects times and people from the 16th century to the present day. All this forms the foundation for the Kammerspiel project, a series of exhibitions in the smallest and most inconspicuous room of the historic architecture, a hidden chamber behind the kitchen. 

From Josefi, St Joseph's Day on 19 March, to Martini, St Martin's Day on 11 November, nine artists or collectives are invited to fill the chamber with art, or rather, to awaken and shape the spirit of the chamber. All artistic media are permitted, with a deliberate focus on the respective opening evening – musical, performative or poetic. 

The selection for Chamber Play was made by curators Elisabeth Carr, Ulrike Prusseit, Katja Sebald and museum director Benjamin Tillig.
